Great Nutritious Carrot, Turmeric, and Ginger Smoothie
CTG – Carrot, Turmeric, and Ginger, three ingredients that may not jump into your thoughts about smoothies. Now that we are coming into the festive season, I often wonder how we can best balance those holiday treats and lengthy dinner get-togethers with healthy, nutritious options. Of course, we always try to limit the amount we eat at the BBQs. Although inevitably the drinks, the snacks, and the desserts sneak up on you. You end up rolling home and collapsing into the ‘near-death food coma.
I’m thinking fruit/Vege packed smoothies could be the answer to the question! Perfect for the summer as they’ll help to cool you down, smoothies can be as nutritious or as wicked as you choose. The CTG (Carrot, Turmeric, Ginger) smoothie below is definitely on the nutritious list! there is a growing trend of ‘eating your colors’ – what better way to do that than to drink a bright orange smoothie?! Hey, if you’re not into drinking a carrot, maybe our New Year, New You spinach smoothie may be more up your alley!
- 1/2 large carrot
- 1 tsp Tumeric
- 1 tsp ginger*
- 1/2 banana
- 1 cup chopped pineapple
- A squeeze of lemon juice
- 1/2 – 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (depending on desired consistency)
- Throw everything in and blend it until smooth. (Yes, I know it does look a little like pumpkin soup, but it definitely doesn’t taste like it!)
- *Ginger is sometimes a hard ingredient to judge. Even if you are a ginger lover (as I am), take it easy on the initial amount you use. Remember, you can add more, but if you put in too much ginger, it is hard to re-balance the other ingredients! I suggest using a ginger paste, as it will give you a smoother taste; ginger roots tend to be quite ‘stringy’.
- Ginger has so many well-known health benefits, some of which will be perfect for the coming season of overeating (helps with indigestion, nausea, and may even lower cholesterol levels!)
